Photography is all about light interacting with film, even digital photography is only possible because we know how light interacts with a camera. These works are inspired by the endless possibilities photography provides in terms of understanding how light works and how we perceived it. With digital photography light can be observed, manipulated and experimented with. In the series titled “Fruit Salad” I have used various filters and light sources to create ambient light and then used digital manipulation to enhance those colours and their vibrancy to ‘shed a new light’ on some usually less colourful environments. The series titled “Ghosts” is a showcase of high light can be manipulated to create images on film that the eye cannot see. Again, different colours have been used to give them an even more unusual feel but this time the colouring effect is purely digital.

This exhibition is about playing with light and colour with digital photography to create ghosts out of light and to present the city of Canberra in a different kind of light. I wanted to use colours and lights to give less colourful scenes a more interesting, if unconventional presentation.         CJ Mules
